The Tennessee Grow Your Own Center, a partnership between the Tennessee Department of Education and the University of Tennessee System, has been awarded a $1.8 million grant over two years to strengthen the teacher talent development pipeline across Tennessee, by increasing the number of individuals enrolling in teacher education programs and improving the retention of existing teachers.

The grant will fund the development of the Registered Teacher Apprenticeship Program of Study which will be an online curriculum developed by faculty fellows in the Institute for Competency-Based Teacher Education.

This program provides Educator Preparation Providers and Local Education Agency leaders with secure access to standards-based curriculum that includes topics such as, planning for instruction, family and community collaboration, and learner development.

Sixteen faculty fellows from institutions across the state, including UT System campuses in Knoxville, Chattanooga, Martin and Pulaski, alongside Austin Peay State University, Middle Tennessee State University and Lipscomb University, are collaborating to create the online curriculum for the program.
