The Giles County Commission will again attempt to elect a Commissioner for District 4 when it meets in regular session Monday, July 17.

Anyone interested in qualifying for the District 4 seat should call County Executive Janet Vanzant's office at 363-5300 no later than 3 p.m. on Wednesday, July 12th, to give sufficient notice for consideration. However, Vanzant said this will not prohibit anyone in the gallery at the meeting from requesting his or her name be placed for nomination.

To be considered as a candidate, a person must have a primary residence within the boundaries of County Commission District 4 and not be prohibited by the Constitution and Laws of the state of Tennessee from running for an office.

The District 4 seat was vacated by Tim Turner in March, and commissioners began the voting process to elect a new commissioner in April. However, a majority vote has not been reached in the three months, which includes a special session in June.

In total, four citizens have expressed interest in filling the District 4 Commission seat. Dewayne Jones, Bill Young, Leigh Brymer and Randy Boaz have qualified, with three being nominated by commissioners.

The vote each time has come down to a race between Jones and Young. With only 19 commissioners present at each of the last meetings to vote, the winner needed a 11-8 vote. In all of the past votes, Jones has received 10 votes and Young nine votes.

The July 17 meeting begins at 9 a.m. on the second floor of the Giles County Courthouse.
