One fatality has been reported as a result of a head-on collision accident Thursday on Elkton Pike near Interstate 65.

The accident resulted in one person being flown to Vanderbilt Hospital, another being transported to a Huntsville Hospital and two people to Southern Regional Health System in Pulaski, where one person later died.

Highway 31/Elkton Pike was shut down near Exit 1 for several hours. Traffic was diverted on Interstate 65 to Exit 6. .

First on the scene were members of Elkton Fire and Rescue who began the extrication. Giles County Fire and Rescue members soon arrived as well as Vanderbilt LifeFlight and Giles County EMS.

The crew of LifeFlight assisted Giles County Ambulance Service members as they transported three of the victims while Vanderbilt LifeFlight flew the other victim.

Also on the scene were troopers from the Tennessee Highway Patrol.

Names of the injured and fatality have not been released by THP as of news time.
