County Executive Melissa Greene told commissioners during Monday's monthly meeting that the vacancy of 6th District Seat will be advertised and the commission will be asked to appoint a replacement at a future meeting.

Louise Faulkner resigned as one of three District 6 commissioners, effective January 1st.

Faulkner was appointed to the county commission in 2009 to complete the remainder of Bobby Lee’s unexpired term and was elected in 2010 and re-elected in 2014 and 2018.

She served on the Budget, Legislative and Building committees, which includes the Property, County Buildings and Renovations Committee.

The reason for Faulkner's resignation was health reasons.

It is with much regret that I resign my position as county commissioner for District 6. Health complications necessitate that I withdraw from this position,” she wrote in her resignation letter. “I have thoroughly enjoyed my association with all county officials and the Giles County Commissioners over the past several years. I have been proud to be part of such an important and challenging team, but due to my health situation I feel it necessary to step down at this time.”
