House fires in Giles County become more frequent from November thru February, but there are many things a person can do to prevent a fire and be prepared in case it happens.
Space heaters that are left unattended and near combustible material are a big cause of home fires this time of year.
In an effort to keep a person safe, Pulaski Fire Department and the Giles County Rescue Squad are asking homeowners to have an escape plan if there is a fire and to find two ways out of the home.
Both departments say prevention is the key to staying safe. Install a smoke detector on every level of your home and make sure the batteries are changed on a regular basis.
Practice fire escape plans at least twice a year and designate a meeting spot outside and make sure all family members know the meeting spot.
Fire fighters in the county remind everyone to be cautious and practice fire safety in their home.
