Lawrenceburg firefighters battled a multi-alarm fire this morning (Tuesday) on Short Avenue.

Crews were called to Welch's Garage just before 6 am on a report of smoke and flames showing from the long time business.

First arriving crews noted the building was fully engulfed in flames.

The city fire department had to utilize two units to combat the blaze and had to shut down Highway 43 for a time to supply water to the scene.

Members of the New Prospect Fire Department, Lawrenceburg Police Department, Lawrence County EMS, and Box 50 Responder Services Unit assisted at the scene.

Investigation into the fire's cause remains under investigation.
