Nearly 1,000 Tennesseans have died in traffic crashes so far this year, according to the Tennessee Department of Safety.

Through November 25, there have been 999 traffic deaths in Tennessee, an increase of 59 deaths compared to the same time period in 2018.

Fatal crashes involving teen drivers (13-19) is up 51% for the time period with 117 compared to 77 last year. Crashes involving large trucks or buses are also up with 145 this year compared to 119.

The Nashville District, which includes multiple Middle Tennessee counties has seen the largest increase by region with 46 more deaths (249) compared to last year. Davidson has seen an increase of 21 deaths and Wilson County an increase of 12.

The Lawrenceburg District is second with an increase of 31 deaths.

More than 1/3 of deaths during the holiday period involve alcohol-impaired drivers.
