Barbara Garrett Nicolson was introduced at the last County Commission meeting as the archivist for Giles County and will work in the Giles County Archives/Old Records Room with Clara Parker.

Commissioners also approved a shelving grant for the archives given through the Tennessee Secretary of State’s Office and approved a set of fees on marriage license applications, beer permit, notary public and building permit applications with the county clerk’s office and another set of fees on filing of records in circuit, chancery, general sessions and probate courts.

Revenues also go to the preservation of records.

Nicolson has been in Giles County for six months, surveying the county’s needs for preserving records.

The department receives many requests for information, and visitors often travel to the county to view records, she said.

The Old Records Department, located for more than 30 years high atop the third floor, has been moved to the bottom of the stairs leading up to the former office.
