Giles County Administrator of Elections Zena Dickey remind candidates that the qualifying deadline for the March 3rd, 2020 primary and the August 6th, 2020 election is December 12th at noon.

The withdrawal deadline will be a week later on December 19th at noon.

According to Dickey, a person must declare the Republican Party if they choose to run in the primary on March 3rd, otherwise they will declare independent on the August 6th County General Ballot.

Terms of two Giles County Commissioners and three county school board members will be on the Aug. 6th County General Primary election ballot.

Seats held by county school board members Tommy Pope, District 2; Katie Journey, District 4 and Debra Poole-Tillman, District 6, will be on the ballot.

District 7 County Commissioner Harold Brooks and District 6 County Commissioner Joseph Sutton will also be on the ballot.

Seats held by Lynnville Mayor Phillip Vandiver, Vice Mayor Floyd Pratt and Alderman Paul Dugger will be on the ballot.

In Minor Hill on the ballot, seats held by Brandon Beard, Roger Thompson and formerly by Scott Jarrell.

In Elkton, seats held by Bill Cary, Bill Bonjour, Bobby Sherrell and Payton Blade will be on the ballot. Sherrell was appointed by board members to complete the term of the late Rebecca Bryant, and Blade to fill the term of Darren Shockney, who resigned.

For the August 6, 2020, election, the last day to register to vote is July 2, 2020.
