Sheriff Kyle Helton hosted Giles County Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 94's annual "Run For Others 5k/10k" over the weekend.

The run took place in the Blue Creek Community and at 8 am, runners of all ages departed the starting line and had the option of running or walking at their own pace. The morning turned out to be cool and crisp, however, it was loaded with scenery such as wild turkeys, deer and local fox hunting clubs running their dogs.

Winners in the four mile race were Kyle Oliver and Tina Morris.

In the six mile run winners were Steve Miller and a tie with Megan Spivey and Catherine Baddour.

Proceeds from entry fees, shirt sales and sponsor donations help fund Giles County F.O.P. Lodge 94's events such as "Cops N Kids" and several others.

Helton said it is a blessing for the participants, but more so for the Officers and individuals "chaperoning" them for the day. The evening is capped off with a brand new bicycle, a meal and a visit from St. Nick himself.

On behalf of F.O.P. Lodge 94, I would like to personally thank everyone that turned out for this year's run, our sponsors, and anyone who helped in any way. Without the help and support from our community, our programs such as Cops N Kids would not be possible, said Helton.

Giles County Lodge 94 President, Scott Nations, and all members of F.O.P. Lodge 94 would also like to express sincere appreciation for everyone involved.

Helton said there were a few shirts available in sizes small, large, and Extra Large from the race at $15 each and can be picked up at the Sheriff’s Department or call 363-3505.
