A food pantry in Spring Hill says they have more than doubled how many people they serve because of the GM strike. Workers are in their fourth week of striking, and resources are running low for many.

Now, the shelves at The Well Outreach are also running out of food.

Workers all get $250 per week from UAW while they strike, but for many who have families to feed and bills to pay, they have had to get help.

A worker at the pantry said initially we thought it would be just the GM workers, and what we’re finding is it is not just the GM workers, but also all of the sister plants or companies that support GM, and we’re seeing an increase of double digit numbers.

According to the worker, they have more than doubled the amount of people they are serving, but they will do all they can to keep serving the community.

A GM worker reporter he understands his fellow colleagues may need the help, personally, he’s going to leave it for people even less fortunate.

If anyone in Giles County that would like to help the food pantry they need cereal and canned proteins the most. The best time to donate is from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
