Rules were suspended at the beginning of Monday's regular session of the Giles County Board of Commissioners to allow newly-appointed Economic Development Commission Director Bethany Shockney speak to the Commissioners.

Shockney spoke about her plans for Giles County's economic growth, including developing Pulaski's Historic Square and in the smaller cities in the county, and also conducting studies on local retail development. She noted she has attended retail development training and is excited to implement locally what she has learned.

The ECD Director also emphasized the  need to have possible properties and buildings on hand to submit for incoming retail or industrial development. Shockney said currently she has only eight properties to submit for retailers or industrial developers to consider. To be competitive, she needs more acreage or buildings to market.

Anyone who wants his or her properties or buildings, located anywhere in Giles County, evaluated for possible retail or industrial development are encouraged to call Shockney at 363-9138.
