The Giles County School Board will consider charging $511.23 per year to out-of-state students who want to attend Giles County Schools during the Thursday meeting.

In an earlier work session, Acting Schools Director Vickie Beard told board members the charge would apply to students from other states, not students from other districts in Tennessee.

She also asked the board to add a statement to the policy which students from other states must be approved by the director of schools annually.

Tennessee Code Annotated requires the school system to charge out-of-state students.

School Board Attorney Tim Underwood told the board that the charge must be approved by the state commissioner of education and attorney general to ensure the charge is not too high or too low.
