The Giles County Sheriff’s Department has received several telephone calls from citizens concerning Social Security fraud. Calls are being made asking citizens to withdraw funds and place on a go-card, and mail out to a particular location. If they fail to do so they are being threatened that they will receive a call from the Sheriff's Department.

One person in particular states that a call was returned to him from a spoof Sheriff's Department number. We are encouraging everyone to immediately hang up when they receive these telephone calls, and understand that Social Security and the Sheriff's Department will not contact anyone in this manner, even if the number appears to be ours.

If this happens to you, please do not provide any personal or banking information, and tell the caller you will immediately go to the Sheriff's Department to speak to the deputies in person.
