Approval of changing meeting times of the Giles County Commission failed to receive 2/3 of the majority vote during today's commission meeting.

Starting times for future county commission meetings was recommended by the Giles County Commission’s Legislative Committee to the full commission, but vote failed with 8 No's and 12 Yes with 20 commissioners present.

After the July meeting, Shelly Goolsby resigned as a District 7 commissioner, saying she would lose time from her teaching job to attend commission meetings unless the meetings started at 4 p.m.

In a lengthy discussion concerning to approve the pay of each commissioner to a flat salary of $250 a month it was voted to send the resolution back to the Legislative Committee to review the laws of commissioner pay with county attorney.

Tommy Pollard, commissioner from District 5, said commissioners should be paid $75 for attending commission meetings, $40 for committee meetings and $40 for attending meetings of committees to which they do not belong.

He said he feels if you set a salary then that person will get paid if they attend a meeting or not.

Commissioners also authorized County Executive Melissa Green to enter into a lease with Bodenham Community Club for $1 per year for 10 years.

Surety bonds for Steven L. Kelley, Giles County Assistant Road Supervisor, was authorized and also all Department Reports were approved.

Commissioners approved Renewal Notary to Stanley Reed Garrett and new notaries to Kaylan S. Brooks, Pam W. Dickey, Melissa A. Guajardo, Sara Henderson-Smith, and Penny Whitworth.
