A representative  from Energy Systems Group recommended a $16.2 million option for schools improvement project during the Giles County School Board Work Session Thursday night.

The board saw a presentation from ESG with 4 different options that included $16.2 million down to a base project of $8.6 million.

Russ Nelson from ESG explained the work to be done, which included replacing 70 percent of the heating and cooling in Giles County schools.

Giles County High School and Bridgeforth Middle School, was identified as needing the most work. ESG proposes to remove all old heating and cooling equipment and also windows are an important part of the project at both GCHS and BMS as is new electrical service.

Nelson said the total energy and maintenance savings from the work at all schools is estimated at $9 million, 60 percent of the total project cost.

Nelson said the key is what the school board wants to recommend to the county school committee because everything on the screen is needed.

The board agreed to review and select a final  project when they meet on September 3rd.

In earlier discussion, Nelson estimated the timeline to complete the project at all schools is approximately one year, adding that if approved could be complete by the end of summer 2020.
