A motorcyclist is dead and a driver is in police custody following a collision on Nashville Highway in Maury County.

Lt. Jeremy Haywood with the Columbia Police Department confirmed that a three-vehicle accident within the 2300 block of U.S. 31 resulted in the death of a motorcyclist on Sunday.

William Robert Kreisel, 39, was pronounced dead at the scene and Eric Sutherland was charged with vehicular homicide and driving under the influence by local police.

Nashville resident Richard Paschal was driving home from his farm in Columbia when he came across the scene of the accident shortly after 9 p.m.

Local authorities and troopers with the Tennessee Highway Patrol continue to urge drivers to stay safe behind the wheel.

 Troopers asked drivers to please take the time to slow down, buckle up and avoid impaired driving. If you know of anyone who is going to choose to drink please educate them on the dangers of driving impaired and the terrible consequences that can result.
