Three people have been critically injured in a shooting in Maury County.

The incident was reported at about 2:15 a.m. Friday on Brown Hollow Road, just west of Columbia.

Maury County Sheriff Bucky Rowland said the caller told dispatchers he shot three people and asked to send help.

Rowland said the two children, who are under 3 years old, were removed from the home are both safe and in the care of the Department of Children's Services

According to media sources, three victims, two females and one male, were taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center with critical injuries.

Rowland said the suspect and the victims are friends and include the mother of the children. The suspect's name has not been released. According to the sheriff's office, the suspect did not legally own the gun due to his criminal history.

A suspect remains detained, and the incident remains under investigation.
