A Pulaski woman and her miniature schnauzer was attacked today by a pit bull on Abernathy Drive in Pulaski.

Both were not hurt, but the woman reported the pit bull started running toward them and attacked her small dog putting him in his mouth and started shaking him.

Neighbors heard a woman screaming and came to the rescue where the pit bull was later captured until Giles County Rabies Control arrived. The neighbor was bitten on the arm while putting a rope around his neck.

The woman told officers this is the second time she and her small dog has been attacked by pit bulls running free in the neighborhood.

Officers said owners should be aware there is a leash law in the City of Pulaski and several of their animal calls are from someone or another animal being attacked by pit bulls.

Impoundment fees for animals at the new Giles County Animal Shelter are $10 for the first pickup, $25 the second pickup and $50 for each additional pickup will be charged.

Once an animal is impounded, if no proof of vaccination and rabies vaccine additional $15 will be charged and can be reclaimed by his owner during a 72 hour holding period.

Boarding fees are $5 per day for animals under 15 pounds and $10 for those 15 pounds and larger. Fees start the day the animal is booked into the shelter.
