The Giles County Commission voted during a meeting Monday  to change the bi-monthly to monthly meetings.

Commissioner Shelley Goolsby  amended the time to be changed from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m., but failed by a vote of 12-9.

Authorizing filing an eminent domain lawsuit relative to removing trees for Abernathy Field Airport was postponed until a Public Service meeting on August 6th.

County Executive Melissa Greene told the commissioners that Steve Upshaw would be at that meeting to explain all the moving parts and asked each one to attend.

Also, commissioners authorized Greene to enter into a contract with Southern Health Partners for the medical care of inmates and detainees of the Giles County Jail.

Giles County Sheriff Department was given the approval to implement special event fees such as the fair and other special events.  Resource officers at each school will attend all school events.

In other business, commissioners authorized a contract with the Tennessee Department  of Transportation under the provisions of the Industrial Highway Act f 1959.

EDC Director David Hamilton addressed the commission on his work the past month including talking with 3 new industries, discussion with ProMark Corporation on closing  and Murco's plans after constructing the new plant.
