Minor Hill Board of Mayor and Alderman gave a final approval for the 2019-2020 budget.

The 2019-20 budget of $296,059 started July 1 and runs through June 30, 2020.

The city also discussed a grant that was received for a building to house a substation for the Giles County Ambulance Service in Minor Hill, and reported they are waiting to learn what the city's share will be.

Minor Hill Mayor Tracy Wilburn, who is also a county commissioner,  said the plans are  to ask other county commissioners and officials to agree to pay the amount of the building not covered by the grant instead of the city.

The Ambulance Service is presently using a space at the Minor Hill Police Department until the new building is completed. The plan is to locate the new building behind Minor Hill School.

According to reports, ambulance service crews are at their temporary quarters approximately three to four days a week. When Ambulance Service crews answer calls from the Minor Hill location, response times in that part of county are lowered.

A city tax rate is not charged in Minor Hill and most of the city’s projected revenues come from the county sales tax, $80,000; beer tax $65,000 and state sales tax $50,000.

To assist in raising money for projects, the city has hosted annual rodeos and tractor pulls.
