The Giles County Board of Education approved high school and middle school coaching supplements during the regular monthly meeting Thursday night.

At the last board meeting, Budget Director Beth Moore-Sumners presented each board member with a list of supplements and amounts for both levels of all sports.

The supplements for head coaches at Richland and Giles County High School were $6500 and Middle School amount was $3,000.

High School Athletic Directors will receive $5,000 and middle school $3,000.

Assistant coaches at each high school will receive $3,000 and middle school $2,000.

Board member Knox Vanderpool suggested and the board approved to draw up a document that describes coaching duties and have coaches to approve and sign with the principal of each school. The coaches will be paid only if team practice is held after school and coaches must be at practice and games per schedule filed with TSSAA or TMSAA.

The board also approved the Additional Target Support and Improvement grant at Southside Elementary for $125,000 and an Adaptive Learning Technology Grant for $31,167. Southside principal explained that both grants are federal funded.

Second reading on the Tobacco Free Schools policy was also approved.
