The Ardmore Board of Mayor and Aldermen approved the 2019-20 budget on second reading with the same tax rate as the previous year.

Numbers for the state equalized property tax rate are 24 cents for the part of Ardmore in Giles County and 21.22 cents for the part in Lincoln County.

During the meeting, board members approved installing more street lights at Main Street and Smith Avenue.

The board members agreed to spend $9,500 on the volleyball court in the city park.

Tim Turner, park director told the board, filling the court with sand would cost approximately $14,000 while a combination of sand and stone would cost the lower figure.

Also approved was a 4 percent pay raises for police officer Jeremy Beavers, Mike Daniels and dispatcher Brittney Mills and a 2.5 percent increase for police chief Jimmy Kennedy.
