During the Giles County Commission meeting Thursday the proposed animal shelter fees were approved.

The new Shelter will begin operation on Tuesday with Morgan Sutton as director.  Hours will be Tuesday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. and Saturday 8 a.m. until noon. The shelter will be closed on Sunday and Monday.

Randy Boaz is the Animal Control Officer and he will respond to complaints regarding dogs running at large and handles neglect and animal cruelty cases for dogs, cats and livestock.

The fees were drafted by Sutton and County Executive Melissa Greene, which encouraged spaying and neutering and other procedures for animals brought in with or without tags or microchips.

Adoption fees for dogs will be $20, Parvo/Distemper Vaccine and Deworming $15 for dogs up to 12 months, Rabies Vaccine of $15 for six months and older plus Spay/Neuter Deposit of $50.

Adoption rates for kittens is $10 with a $25 spay and neuter deposit for a total of $35.

Impoundment fees are $10 for the first pickup, $25 the second pickup and $50 for each additional pickup will be charged.

Once an animal is impounded, if no proof of vaccination and rabies vaccine additional $15 will be charged and can be reclaimed by his owner during a 72 hour holding period. 

Boarding fees are $5 per day for animals under 15 pounds and $10 for those 15 pounds and larger. Fees start the day the animal is booked into the Giles County Animal Shelter.
