A woman charged in connection to a 2018 shooting at the Canebrake Club community in Athens was recently sentenced to prison after pleading guilty to an unrelated drug charge.

Samantha Leigh Davis, 25, pleaded guilty this month to unlawful possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute. Judge Chad Wise sentenced her to serve seven years in prison.

Records show Davis was indicted by a grand jury on the charge in May 2018.

The criminal complaint, filed March 13, 2018, by narcotics investigator Jamie King, states Davis was in possession of between 8 and 28 grams of methamphetamine.

Just days after being indicted by a grand jury, police believe Davis and two other men shot a man in the Canebrake Club community. Police ultimately charged Davis, Michael Stanley Putman, 29, of Pulaski  and Stanley Eugene Birdsong, 34, of Elkton with attempted murder.

There are no hearings scheduled for Davis or Birdsong in the Canebrake shooting incident.  Putman is on the plea docket for July 31st and a jury trial is tentatively scheduled for August 12.
