A Minor Hill 7th grader was recognized at last night's (Thursday) Giles County School Board meeting.

According to Principal Vickie Beard, Caleb Durham has been recognized by Duke University for his scores on the high school ACT earlier this year.  

Durham scored 22 overall and 31 on Reading.

The board tabled a bid for school bus tires. Only one vendor presented a tire bid, so board members agreed to table until they compare the bid with a state contract.

 In other new business, the board was told the Read to be Ready federal grant had been approved for $84,000. The summer program is for kindergarten, first and second grade students in the county. 

Contract  for Emmett Smith and Associates Professional Services was approved.

Also,  the board agreed to sell 30 old desk and chairs plus a TV cart at Richland Elementary School. 

CTE Director told the board his department had received a $72,000 Carl Perkins grant which was approved by the finance department and director of schools.

Reports approved were from assistant director, technology, and Giles County Schools Internal School Funds.

School Director Phillip Wright was not present at the meeting.

The next work session will be June 20 at the Central Office and next board meeting is scheduled on July 11th at 5 p.m.
