In a turnaround from an announcement made earlier this year, Columbia’s King’s Daughters’ School in Columbia will continue its contract with the state to provide early intervention services in southern Middle Tennessee.

In April, the school announced that its contract would end after four decades of working with the Tennessee Department of Education to care for the region’s at-risk youth for the state.

The King’s Daughters’ School primarily serves as a private residential school for students with intellectual disabilities and autism in Giles, Maury and the surrounding areas.

According to School officials, due to some concern regarding the method used to select Tennessee early intervention providers, the decision was made to renew contracts with existing providers for one more year while the selection process was evaluated.

School leadership initially said the state’s decision not to renew its contract reflected what appears to be a statewide shift from small community-based providers that act on behalf of the state to larger support organizations.

It is one of more than 30 early intervention services provider that will continue to operate in Tennessee, following the renewal.
