Three units from the Pulaski Fire Department responded to a structure fire call Sunday morning at 1317 Riley Hill Road.

When fire fighters arrived at the home of Qrondia Gilbert, they discovered heavy smoke and flames in the attic and immediately the roof  was cut so fireman could get to the flames.

Estimate damage to the home was $15,000.  Gilbert's mother was the owner of the home and was not present when the fire broke out.

The PFD fought the flames for one and-a-half hours before it was under control.

Collins said  Gilbert reported he had a stove fire earlier and had  extinguished it with water and thought the fire was out, but was awaken around 6 am. to smoke in the home.

Gilbert made it out safely and was not injured.

Chief Collins said this is an example that a small fire could later lead to major damage. He  highly recommends to always call the fire department.
