The national average for a gallon of unleaded gasoline is $2.45, due to refinery and pipeline shut downs, tightened access to supply levels in the Gulf and anticipated high gasoline demand due to the Labor Day Weekend, according to the AAA Auto Club.

Motorists should expect gas prices to rise another five to 10 cents before measures currently being taken can take effect.

Also, the Environmental Protection Agency has issued a waiver for 12 states, including Tennessee and surrounding states, for an early sell of low volatility conventional and reformulated gasoline, which are a winter blend.

Tennessee gas prices have increased 12 cents since Hurricane Harvey came ashore a week ago.

The most expensive metro markets for gas prices in the state are in Nashville at $2.30, Memphis at $2.26 and Clarksville at $2.24. The lowest are in Johnson City, Chattanooga and Knoxville.
