The Elkton Board of Mayor and Aldermen recently passed an ordinance allowing the temporary sale of beer for a festival June 1 in the city park.

Plans continue for the one day festival which is called Elkton Heyday, said organizer Brandi Blade.

Proceeds will go to buy a police car for the city.

Charitable and non-profit organizations may receive a temporary beer permit, from the city, for one day between 1-10 p.m.

An organization is limited to one permit monthly, and events must be held on the baseball field at Elkton City Park. Besides the date and time of the event, hours of beer sales must be specified.

Arrangements have been made to publicize the event, especially to attract visitors from outside Elkton, Blade said.

Board members also agreed to borrow $12,000 for road repairs in the city and to repay the Tennessee Municipal Bond Fund $1,000 monthly.

According to City Recorder Margie Brooks, total interest should be $211 and the borrowed money will supplement other city funds.

In other business, the board agreed to continue looking into moving school lights and a signal arm on lights at Baugh Road.
