Martin Methodist College received a $2 million grand award from the Jeanette Travis Foundation, making this the fourth and largest gift the foundation has made to the College in the last five years.

Chartered in 2003 by Jeanette Travis after the death of her husband, Leon Travis, the Jeanette Travis Foundation exists today because of the Travis’s simple way of life that resulted from growing up in the Great Depression. The foundation’s principal mission is to further the profession of nursing and assist organizations that provide primary healthcare and other basic services to vulnerable and underserved populations.

According to Richard Warren, Travis Foundation President and trustee, we are confident that it would have gladdened her heart to see these funds benefitting the nursing program at Martin Methodist.”

The grant funds are designated to renovating Martin's  Biology and Chemistry Labs and for expanding and enhancing the Nursing Program. As a result of the Travis Foundation’s generosity and continued support of the College, the Board of Trustees unanimously voted to rename the Martin Methodist College Nursing Program in memory of Jeanette M. Travis and will now bear the new name Jeanette M. Travis School of Nursing.

Martin Methodist College President Mark La Branche said this extraordinary and historic commitment will ensure the quality and growth of our nursing and health science programs.
