After an inspection earlier this year Giles County Grand Jury asked for more security and space at the Giles County Courthouse.

The report filed with Circuit Court Clerk states the Courthouse security needs to be implemented for the safety of office holders, judges, employees and visitors.

Deputies with the Giles County Sheriff’s Department are responsible for Courthouse and Courtroom security and are present in the building.

According to Giles County Executive Melissa Greene, the sheriff's department does an outstanding job patrolling the building.

Securing the courthouse at its five entrances is a challenge not mentioned was the elevator that does not go to the third floor of the Courthouse which houses the Old Records Department.

Also the grand jury report  mentioned that more storage space is desperately needed for all areas in the Courthouse.

The 22nd Judicial District Attorney General’s Office has moved part of its office from the Courthouse, which frees another room, Greene added.  The UDC Room, which was used for meetings, is now the jury room.

A more comfortable seating arrangement in the UDC room was recommended for the grand jury.
