Another Giles County resident has fallen victim to a scam telephone call and has reported it to Sheriff Kyle Helton.

Helton said a scammer called the local resident  that their grandchild was in jail and send a money order for their release.

The elderly couple sent a money order,  but Helton did not know the amount.

It is probably a scam if the caller wants you to send them money, phone cards, prepaid credit cards or money grams. You will lose your money with these types of transactions, Helton said.

The Sheriff's Department will not be able to get this money or even proceed very far with an investigation because the scammers are in a foreign country, and the money is sent to that country.

As always, the Sheriff and his department warns against giving out any personal information or sending money to someone calling to solicit goods or services. Be very suspicious of a caller who asks for personal information, makes computer related inquires or talks about anything else that involves money.

Helton advised for anyone to call his department or Pulaski Police Department before sending money to a person they do not know.
