Gas prices in Giles County continue to rise. Drivers are paying an average price of $2.52 per gallon for regular unleaded.

Monday's state average was  five cents more than a week ago, 24 cents more than last month, and three cents higher than this time last year.

The national gas average is $2.74, which is an increase of a nickel on the week and is eight cents more than this time last year. Compared to one month ago, gas prices are 28 cents more expensive. As demand holds steady and inventories continue to tighten, motorists continue to see gas prices increase in Giles County and every region.

Oil prices climbed last week following strong U.S. economic data that reduced fears of a drop in global crude demand later this year. Moreover, escalating military actions in Libya,  a major global crude producer and exporter  and supported crude price increases amid concerns that crude exports from the country could be affected by the tension.

Prices could climb even further this week as OPEC’s 1.2 million  production reduction agreement remains in place through June and the U.S. tightens its crude export sanctions against Iran and Venezuela.
