Pulaski Mayor Pat Ford has been appointed interim director of the Giles County Economic Development Commission.

During a meeting last week, Commissioner Terry Harwell cited a county commission resolution that the same person could not hold both positions at the same time.

According to County Executive Melissa Greene the resolution did not apply because the interim position differed from a permanent appointment.

She said the position was offered to members of the commission and the only one to step up was Mayor Ford and she was thankful for his willingness to serve.

Former director Beth Shockney resigned earlier this year to take a similar position in Limestone County, Alabama.

Ford said approximately 60 candidates have applied for the position.
