Giles County has been given approval to apply for a $20,000 grant for improvements at the Agriculture Park.

According to Giles County Executive Melissa Greene, half of the grant will go for developing a master plan for  park, which could lead to additional grants.

The remainder of the money will be used for signs, lights and related items, she said.

The county will not have to pay any matching funds to quality for the grant.

The committee members recently set a schedule when the park will be open, which also could aid the quest for grants which Benny Birdsong, park caretaker, has sought.

Also, members have agreed to refund part of the deposits paid to held activities at the park, if the facility was not used the entire time and grounds were left in good condition.

A sub-committee is being formed to study aspects of the committee's work.
