Giles County commission will make a decision on a state grant to open the fourth convenience center when they meet on March 18.

According to Julie Phillips, Solid Waste Coordinator in Giles County, the newest convenience center would go in Minor Hill. The other centers are located in the north past Richland School, west in Bodenham, and east in Agri Park.

The grant for approximately $100,000 would come through the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conversation with the county matching $41,000.

Convenience centers accept recyclable materials and solid waste, while recycling centers take only recyclables.

Minor Hill's center would be on city land. Without the grant, the center will not be built.

County solid waste and recycling programs are evaluated by the amount of material collected per number of county residents on average.
