New estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau show Tennessee remained the nation’s 16th most populous state for the third year in a row in 2018.

The data, analyzed by the Tennessee State Data Center, housed in UT’s Boyd Center for Business and Economic Research, indicates that the state’s population grew by 61,216 people between 2017 and 2018, increasing the population estimate to 6,770,010 residents.

The one-year increase in population of 0.91 percent fell slightly from the 2016-17 rate of 0.96 percent.
