Many of General Motors’ hourly employees will have an extra $10,750 in their paycheck Feb. 22.

GM announced Wednesday that profit for North American business operations in 2018 was $10.8 billion. That means 46,500 eligible workers — about 3,500 in Spring Hill — will have fatter wallets in two weeks.

Under an agreement with the United Auto Workers, GM pays $1,000 in profit sharing per eligible employee for every $1 billion it makes in profit.

GM said its North American profit came from sales of crossover vehicles such as the Cadillac XT5 and GMC Arcadia, made in Spring Hill. It also pointed out the launch of the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra pickups in 2018 and cost controls.
