The reward for a Columbia man who opened fire on a local police officer on Saturday has been increased by more than double after a new contribution from the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

The Columbia Police Department announced Wednesday that authorities are offering a total of $8,500 for information leading to the arrest of 47-year-old Jamal Gardner.

Gardner is currently on the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation’s 10 Most Wanted list which, offers up to $2,500 dollars for information leading to his arrest. Columbia police is offering $1,000 for information leading to his arrest and an addition $5,000 reward from the FBI on Wednesday has brought the total to $8,500.

The Columbia Police Department, along with state and federal agencies, continue to search for Gardner who is wanted after he allegedly attacked his girlfriend at her home, shot barrage of bullets at a local officer during a traffic stop and got away as the police closed in around his property  north of the county courthouse.
