Residents could see Main Street in Spring Hill begin construction on widening to five lanes as soon as late 2019, according to a recent meeting with city staff and the Tennessee Department of Transportation.

The project was recently recommended to be placed on the state’s three-year priority list and would cover U.S. Highway 31 from Miles Johnson Parkway to Buckner Road at the southern border of Thompson’s Station.

The current discussion between city and state includes whether Spring Hill leaders would allow TDOT to take control of the widening project starting next year.

The first phase of the project will include an environmental study, as well as preliminary engineering, which could take about 18 months.
