The Maury County School Board approved early drawings for a new McDowell Elementary School during a meeting Monday evening.

The drawings show that the new school to replace the old one will be located on the same property as the current McDowell campus on Trotwood Avenue.

The two-story school is planned to be located farther away from the road and will feature two pickup and drop off areas for school buses and cars.

The tentative plans passed without discussion by the board.

The school district is planning to complete the building in time for the start of the new academic year in August 2020.
