The Tennessee Department of Homeland Security and police agencies statewide were investigating numerous bomb threats. Media sources report there were threats coming into other cities around the nation Thursday afternoon as well.

In all cases, emails were sent to random businesses and schools demanding bitcoins in exchange for not detonating a device they claim to have placed in each building. They believe this is part of a hoax that is coming from outside the country. Police say they have found nothing suspicious at any of the locations.

Police in Lawrenceburg reported a demand for money and a threat to set off an explosive device if payment was not made. A random check with the Giles County School Board indicated no schools in in the county had received any type of bomb threat.
