A 22 year old Athens man was injured when the truck in which he was riding fell about 20 feet off a bridge Tuesday night, according to authorities.

Athens police said Peyton Matthew Coleman was driving a red Chevrolet pickup west on U.S. 72 near Line Road about 8:30 p.m. when the vehicle struck a concrete guard rail on a bridge over Piney Creek.

Police said a medical helicopter transported Coleman to the Huntsville Hospital. The truck landed on rocks and mud next to the creek.

Athens Limestone Rescue Squad and Athens Fire and Rescue searched for other possible passengers of the truck and it was determined Coleman was the only person in the truck at the time of the crash.
