Spring Hill will receive a $25 million federal grant for a major road project.

U.S. Sen. Lamar Alexander said in a release Thursday that the "BUILD" grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation will be used to construct a new interchange on Interstate 65.

"Spring Hill currently has only one I-65 interchange, and this project would create much needed interstate access on the north end of town, which will greatly help to relieve U.S. 31 traffic," said Spring Hill spokesman Jamie Page in a release.

Total costs for the new interchange were estimated at $28 million earlier this year.

"This $25 million federal grant will create a new avenue for Middle Tennesseans to get to work more quickly,” Alexander said.

In fiscal 2018, the BUILD grant was federally funded at $1.5 billion.
