The Giles County Office of Emergency Management is currently accepting volunteer applications from citizens around the county for volunteers for its Hazardous Materials team.

OEM Deputy Director Josh Young says that the Haz-Mat team has been relying on many emergency responders, especially those volunteers from the Giles County Fire and Rescue.

Twenty hours of mostly free training annually are required.  All members must help to maintain equipment monthly along with maintaining inventory and Haz-Mat trailers

There is no requirement of prior experience to join, but applicants must pass a background check, medical physical and drug screen and meet OSHA requirements for the respiratory protection gear.

Call 363-1342 or stop by the Giles OEM office at 211 South Cedar Lane to pick up an application.
