The Pulaski Fire Department was sent to the scene of a house fire at 133 Elm Street just before 1:00 Friday morning.

A bedroom was in flames by the time fireman arrived. According to fire Chief Don Collins the fire was put out in a few minutes, but fireman stood by for 2 hours to make sure it was extinguished.

Lyvia Braymer occupied one side of the duplex that caught fire, she was transported by Giles EMS to the hospital for smoke inhalation. Residents in the other side of duplex got out safe as well.

Chief Collins said there was about $40,000 damage to the property, which was owned by Matt Rackley. The chief reminds everyone to check the batteries in their smoke detectors to make sure they’re in working order.
