With the voter registration deadline over for the Nov. 6 federal, state and city elections, next up is early voting, which runs from October 17-November 1.

Kathy Bassham of the Giles County Election Commission said there were 19,061 registered voters in the county, as of October 8.

Republican Bill Lee and Democrat Karl Dean are running for governor, and Republican Marsha Blackburn and Democrat Phil Bredesen are vying for U.S. Senator.

In the Seventh District Congressional race, Republican Mark Green and Democrat Justin Kanew represent the state’s major political parties.

Republican Clay Doggett, Democrat Jessica Yokley and Independent Roy Donald Waldrop — are running for District 70 for the State House of Representatives.

Pat Ford is running for re-election for mayor against Alderman Vicky Harwell, while incumbent Aldermen Jerry Bryant, Hardin Franklin and Patricia (Pat) Miles are running against William (Billy) Brymer and Jimmy Mooney. Three aldermen will be chosen.

In Ardmore, incumbent Tim McConnell and challengers Vice Mayor Ken Crosson, Alderman Paul Van Manen and newcomer Make Magnusson are running for mayor. 

Incumbent Aldermen Wayne Harvell and Joe Stagner are challenged by ex-alderman Shane Emerson and newcomers Jason Sherman and Spencer Smith. Three aldermen will be elected.

Early voting takes place in the basement of the Courthouse Annex in the election commission office. The office is open Monday thru Friday from 8:00-4:00 and on Saturday during early voting from 8:00-12:00.
