The Giles County Board of Commissioners met Monday for just under two hours and took care of numerous business items.

Newly elected County Executive Melissa Greene was elected chairman of the commission, Stoney Jackson chairman pro tem, and Tommy Pollard, chaplain.

A vacancy on the School Board was filled with the nomination of Mary McCloud and Tommy Pope to the board. By a vote of 11 to10 the second district board seat went to Tommy Pope.

Elections were held for the various committee assignments with a chairman, vice chairman, and recording secretary chosen for each committee. There are seven members on each committee.

As the final order of business at Monday’s meeting the commission voted to approve up to $7500 per department for recovery efforts in North Carolina. If Giles EMA or Giles EMS were asked to respond to a disaster the county would be reimbursed that amount. This would create a policy in case emergency services of the county were needed in a disaster in the future.
