Columbia State Community College recently announced that it has surpassed its record enrollment number for a second consecutive year.

Preliminary data for fall 2018 shows a college-wide headcount of 6,252 students, an increase of 5.3 percent from the previous year

The college says three of its campuses have seen significant growth in degree credit enrollment this fall.

The Columbia campus grew by 3.59 percent for a total of 3,175 students, the Lewisburg campus increased 16 percent with a total 295 students enrolled and the Williamson campus is up 6.82 percent for a total of 2,240 students.

They say the increase in first-year students is due in large part to the success of the Tennessee Promise program, which allows graduating high school seniors to attend a community college tuition-free.

Final enrollment numbers will be determined by the Tennessee Board of Regents
